What is the basis of authentic love?
Love is defined as a “strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal warm attachment, enthusiasm or devotion”. I believe the basis of authentic love is unselfishness. One cannot be able to attach feelings to another person if she is only thinking only about herself. This is the principle component of love. God has shown unconditional love to mankind when he gave up his only son. God did not become selfish. Another example to this is when Gandhi has shown authentic love for his people when he marched up in front of the British and drove them away in a silent peaceful process. He had thought of the citizens’ future when he did his protests. Our mothers can also be so unselfish that she is so willing to risk her body curves in order to bring in to the world another life. These are examples of real authentic love. One gives up something in the hope that her partner can be able to live a better life.
Authentic love may be based on two factors: on the lover and on the recipient. Love is universal and is a culmination of many different sentiments and gestures. To determine if these actions are indicative of true love it would depend on the two factors. Does the person mean to express love and does the person it is meant for receive and understand it to be love? if both parties have a mutual understanding that the exchange going on between them is equal to love and they feel the desire to give and receive more of this to another, the experience may be called authentic love. This is based on the personal benchmarks of the people involved as to what love necessitates for it to be genuine.
On the other hand, the basis of authentic Love, when referred to the biblical passages, is the love of God. It is a special kind of love that differs from all others in a way that makes that love worthy of note. This could mean that, not one single person or any living creature in this world could triumph over the love that God gave for us. He manifested the real, unselfish, genuine, bona fide and unconditional love to His people by giving His only begotten son to save the people from their sins. As for me, the passion that Christ experienced (dying on the cross) is the basis of authentic love… the AGAPE love. One should understand the saving grace that God has given to all of us for the reason that we would not be here now if not because of God’s sacrifice and love for His people without asking anything in return. It is of great shame and disrespect to God if we are not grateful and appreciative about it.
As for me, what God did for us is something that we cannot do yet He is telling us that we could try to be like Him in our own ways. He made us feel what authentic love is and that He wants us to proliferate love to others as well. Love is the word of God.
Authentic love is depicted in the bible passage found in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 which says that: “Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things; Love never fails.”
As for me, the bible passage explicates the basis of authentic love. The passage also made me realize that love is not all about emotions because sentiments easily gets the person carried away intended to get prone with failures and LOVE is not all about lacking success, it’s about victory.
DO I MAKE ANY SENSE?!
